This is the all-new Lincoln MKC (C for crossover, compact). It’s based on the Ford Edge, but with lots of upgrades and changes. It’s not just a badge-engineering job. I think it’s handsome and will find some traction in the very big compact SUV/CUV market.

The rear doesn’t work as well for me. The MKC kind of has a fat ass and the “signature” taillights that sweep across the whole rear just make it look larger.

The interior of the Lincoln MKC is more successful. With a combination of MyLincoln Touch and physical buttons and knobs, this is the direction Ford and Lincoln are taking to try and appease pissed-off consumers who hate the touch controls.

This video was shot on October 1, 2011 in San Francisco, CA.  There is only a thin layer of disguise on the yet-to-be released all-new Boxster, Cayman, 911 Turbo and 911 Cabriolet.  Unfortunately the video was taken with a smartphone, so it’s not the best quality, but you get a pretty good pictures of what is coming from Porsche over the next two years.

I’m quite impressed with the new Cayman’s lines. It will be a compelling alternative to its much more expensive brother, the 2012 911 (internal code 991).

As you can see, this was a large contingent of Porsche sports cars. [I was going to add the adjective “expensive” but that would be redundant when talking about anything Porsche.] The German drivers were none too happy about the video being shot.  But why were they in San Francisco? It’s an incredibly dense urban environment and they were sure to be sighted by hundreds, if not thousands of people.

This wasn’t a publicity or promotional video shoot.  The 2012 911 has already been introduced to the world at last month’s Frankfurt Auto Show, so the “standard” 2012 911 Carrera and Carrera S weren’t disguised.  The rest of the cars are supposed to be hidden from the prying eyes of spy photographers.

Testing is usually carried out in remote places like Death Valley or some freezing deserted road in Finland or Iceland. There are also large private testing grounds. When a new model is nearing production, we  always get some spy shots of these cars out testing in normal traffic. We see them all the time in LA.   But I’ve never seen a convoy like this that has the future of Porsche all lined up in a row for everyone to see. Very odd, but very cool!
