A Bad California Day in Beverly Hills

Thanks to our friends at Jalopnik for finding this painful video of a red Ferrari California that got run over by a Shalimar tour bus in the heart of Beverly Hills’ Golden Triangle business/shopping district. It was a lovely, sunny Southern California day for most of us, but I think it was a dark day for the owner/driver of the Ferrari.

This stretch of Wilshire Blvd is where N. Camden Dr. and Dayton Way intersect and dead end. These two one-way streets intersect like the tip of a triangle into Wilshire.   It’s difficult for a bus to turn on any of these three street because it’s not a normal right-angle intersection.  The Ferrari is so low to the ground that the bus driver may not have ever seen it in his blind spot mirrors or heard the screaming, honking driver.

The bus sustained minimal damage while the Ferrari California (base price $192,000) is nearly totaled.

2012 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Durango DUB Editions

I was driving by the Pacific Design Center on Friday and spied these new Chrysler Group products on display.  Both these cars have upgrades (if you can call them that) from the DUB catalog of aftermarket bling.  The wheels probably cost at least $1,000 each.  I don’t like the DUB products, but they are popular with a wealthy subset of customers.  DUB Magazine also features all sorts of cars with expensive aftermarket upgrades.  It’s the kind of thing you’d see at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) convention in Las Vegas each year.

It looks sharp in this dark gray/black metallic color.

Rear - okay... looks like a rebadged Jeep grand Cherokee, which it is.

2012 Chrysler 300 - DUB edition

From the rear, it looks very much like the outgoing 300.

The side of the new 300 still looks slab-sided.

The DUB wheels are expensive. But the low profile tires and these gigantic wheels guarantee a harsh ride and it will attract attention of thieves.

The front of the new 300 looks good, particularly at night with the LED eye liner.

The beautiful PDC can make almost any car look good.
