The 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance wants to be the Pebble Beach of the East Coast. They think they are now on par with Pebble Beach; but you need more than a decade of shows to match the depth and pinnacle of automotive engineering and design presented each year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Pebble Beach has been in business since 1950 and is considered by many to be the world’s premiere celebration of the automobile.
Amelia Island, a ritzy little Atlantic resort town north of Jacksonville, Florida near the Georgia border, is home to this significant Concours d’Elegance each year. It’s held the second weekend of March at the Ritz Carlton — a fitting background for these beautiful, graceful beasts of times long past.
The Amelia Island Concourse really has fantastic automobiles and some quirky fun ones too. I have no doubt that it is in the top tier of shows in the world and number two in the US.

2011 Amelia Island Concours d’ Elegance
In March is a great time to be at the 5-Star Ritz-Carlton Resort on AmeliaIsland near Jacksonville, Florida for Aemlia Island 16th Concoursd’Elegance. This year’s featured marques are the American classic Deusenburgs, the rare British Allard and the race and street cars of Frank Kurtis. A few dozen other classes accommodate close to 300 cars and motorcycles on the golf links. The RM Auction folks gathered a variety of featured cars,and nearby the Gooding & Company presents another auction. This year Bobby Rahal, a central figure in the racing community for 40 years beginning with SCCA competition in the early 1970s and continuing through Can-Am, IMSA, IRL, CART, ALS and even NASCAR was this year’s honoree. There’s just to many Auto’s to list 20s, 30s and 40s – Bentleys, Bugatti, Rolls, Talbot Lago, WWII Racing Cars and others. Orphan concepts class Plymouth Explorer, one of the last cars designed by the iconic Virgil Exner and built by Ghi. The 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster known as the “Morman Meteor” this car was built to set speed records on the Bonneville salt flats and best in Show Concours d’Elegance well just watch this DVD the Total Time is 1Hour 57 Minutes!
